Ancon raises £25,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity

Ancon is proud to announce that it has raised an impressive £25,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity in support of its “Make it Better” campaign.

Anticipating a three year fundraising commitment, Ancon’s target donation was reached in just 18 months, which is a remarkable achievement for an equally remarkable hospital that treats children from all over the UK and around the world. In order to hit its ambitious target amount, Ancon developed and supported a wide range of initiatives from the sale of cakes, plants and outdated IT equipment to fancy dress days, an ‘extra day paid holiday’ raffle and weekly “Open the Box” game where staff could win cash prizes.

Whilst most employees showed support for each event, some members of the Ancon team went the extra mile, throwing themselves into more physical fundraising challenges, including hiking the 3,017ft ascent of Mount Snowdon and pushing themselves to the limit at the Rother Valley Triathlon consisting of a 750m lake swim, 25km bike ride and 5km run which was a new experience for them all. Furthermore, employees from the Sheffield head office and Deeside manufacturing site went head to head in a charity football match at Hillsborough Arena, Sheffield.

Pete McDermott, Ancon’s Operations Director said;

We are delighted to make this contribution to such a worthy cause and want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal so quickly, particularly our staff for their continuous support and our customers, suppliers and parent company CRH plc, without whose generosity this wouldn't have happened. We hope we can inspire other businesses to support this appeal by demonstrating that although donations of this size may seem daunting at first, they are possible with the right mix of fundraising ideas and a company-wide commitment.

Ancon’s efforts will be recognised by the charity through the naming of a child’s room when the Sheffield hospital’s redevelopment is complete. This room sponsorship scheme is part of the hospital’s Make it Better campaign with the overall aim to raise £20 million through the support of local businesses, like Ancon, and the general public. As a result, the hospital will be transformed, replacing the existing wards with spacious en-suite single rooms and the inclusion of a huge play tower and garden areas, to make being in hospital feel that bit better for both the children and their families, and to create the best possible environment to aid recovery. New life-saving, specialist medical equipment will also be funded by the appeal.
