In Australia, over 5,000 Lockable Dowels have been installed in the post-tensioned concrete frame of the new Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. Use of these dowels at temporary movement joints has replaced the need for 1 metre wide ‘pour strips’ to be left in the concrete slabs, and for the slabs to be propped. This improves site access and allows overhead services such as fire-suppression systems and wastewater pipes to be installed without delay, accelerating the rate of construction.
