MBT Couplers

MBT couplers require neither bar end preparation to form threads nor bar rotation to effect installation. The bars are supported within the coupler by two serrated saddles.

As a series of lockshear bolts are tightened to a predetermined torque, they are embedded into the bar. At the same time the saddles bite into both the bar and the shell of the coupler. Installation is complete when the heads of all of the bolts are sheared off. The lockshear bolts on sizes 10mm to 20mm can be tightened using a ratchet wrench. For larger sizes a nut runner is recommended. Impact tools must not be used. MBT couplers can be used to join imperial, plain round or deformed reinforcing bars.

Approvals

The most common size of ET series couplers are approved to UK CARES TA1-A & TA1-B 5083 and in accordance with the Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works, Volume 1 Specification for Highways Works, Series 1700 Structural Concrete (Amended March 2020)

MBT couplers have been tested to show compliance with the following design codes: BS EN 1992-1-1: 2004 (Eurocode 2), BS 5400, BS 8110, BS 8597, ACI 318, and DIN 1045 German Code.

ET Series

ET series couplers are used to connect reinforcing bars of the same diameter. They can be used when neither bar can be rotated and are available in sizes 10mm to 40mm.

Transition Series

MBT Transition couplers connect reinforcing bars of different diameters and are suitable for applications when neither bar can be rotated. They are available to suit bar sizes 12mm to 40mm.

Continuity Series

The MBT Continuity coupler allows reinforcement to be extended at construction joints in concrete without the need to drill or otherwise damage the formwork at the construction joint locations. They are available to suit bar sizes 12mm to 40mm.

MBT Headed Anchors

MBT Headed Anchors are designed to provide dead end embedment for bars in concrete. This helps to reduce congestion and simplify the placement of rebars by removing the need for hooked ends.
